SCAM ALERT
Don’t be fooled by scammers! Help fight fraud and prevent identity theft by following these simple tips.
Fraudsters use spoofing techniques to make it appear as though a phone call, email, or text message is coming from your financial institution so they can:
- Steal your debit card information
- Bypass security protections and access your account online; and
- Solicit funds for fake payments.
Never trust caller ID because the fraudster can make calls appear as though they are coming from any name and phone number. They will do everything they can to appear as if they are a real credit union employee attempting to assist you with your account, often times fraudulently alerting you to suspicious debit card activity or some other urgent matter related to your account to try to convince you to give them personal and financial information.
How to Protect Yourself
- Never share any personal or financial information by text message, email, or internet. Also, never give anyone who calls you this type of information no matter how urgent the request may seem.
- Don’t share security codes sent to you from services like Paypal, Google, Cash App, Venmo, or Apple Pay with anyone. Scammers use these codes to bypass security protections and setup fraudulent debit/credit card payments.
- Protect your home banking usernames/passwords, account numbers, and debit/credit card numbers. Financial institutions will never call, text, or email and ask you for this information.
- If you get a call asking for sensitive personal or financial information, immediately hang up and stop by your local branch or give us a call at 256-340-2000 or 800-239-5515 for assistance in verifying if there is a legitimate problem with your account.
